Johnny, Tonight!
The confluence of MAD Magazine, Britcoms and Johnny formed our unique senses of humor (we never much cared for SNL).
Johnny as Floyd R. Turbo, American: "I'm here to rebut his butt!"
We had a radio that could pick up TV signals, so, radio stuffed furtively under Hoss' pillow (or was that Hoss?), we were able to listen to the monologue and much of the show before falling asleep. We'd make tape recordings where we acted out our own "Tonight Shows". Buzzcut even went as Johnny one Halloween, complete with grey hair and theme music!
Johnny describes Ed's bar tab
Carnac, Floyd R. Turbo, "The Edge of Wetness", The Might Carson Art Players and, always, the monologue. Buzzcut's 8th grade classmates would wait anxiously for his re-enactment of the previous night's monologue: "It was so hot in Los Angeles today ..." ["How hot was it?"] "It was so hot I saw Orson Welles selling shade!" [Ed: "HUH, huh, huh!"]
Godspeed, Mr. Carson, and thanks for a million laughs!
"We have with us a visitor from the East"
