Oct. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Former Representative Mark Foley, who resigned in disgrace last week after internet sexual exchanges with underage boys surfaced, was sexually abused as a teenager by a clergyman, said his lawyer David Roth.
Foley, a Florida Republican, yesterday checked into a substance abuse clinic, blaming his lapse of judgment on alcohol (emphasis ours). He resigned Sept. 29 from Congress after ABC questioned him about sexually explicit internet messages with underage congressional pages.
