Today, we are Israelis
We have been supporters of Israel since we were old enough to think.
The reasons to us were always obvious.
Imagine our surprise when, a couple years back, a Euro-Moonbat enlightened us as to our true motives: We are fundamentalist Christians hell-bent on bringing about the Rapture and that somehow entails supporting Israel.
We were floored! All along we'd considered ourselves Catholics who supported Israel for a very, VERY simple reason: She is and always has been an oasis of Civilization in a desert of 7th Century Barbarism, a bastion of individual rights in cesspool of Koranic shit.
Kind of like finding a metalhead at an Uncle Plum gig.
Her enemies are our enemies.
Her war is ours, though Her peril lies just outside her gates.
Today, we are Israelis.

Dems, ACLU bemoan anti-vote fraud law
Democrats challenge new Mo. voter ID law
Oh.
What a surprise.
The proponents of "Motor Voter" and drivers licenses for illegals are threatened by the smallest initiatives that might ensure that ONLY REGISTERED VOTERS vote! This law won't even guarantee that the voters are actual citizens, merely that they are who they say they are.
Ya see, folks, for all their bellyaching about "stolen elections" and kook conspiracy theories involving Diebold, these people RELY on voter fraud for electoral success.
The 2004 election was NOT stolen in Ohio.
But it was DAMN NEAR stolen in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Minnesota.
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Officials in Missouri's two largest cities filed a lawsuit Monday to block a new state law requiring voters to show photo identification.
Under the law, voters starting this November will need a photo ID issued by either the state of federal government, such as a driver's license, to cast a regular ballot. Those lacking IDs can cast provisional ballots, which would count if their signatures matched those on file with election authorities.
Republican Gov. Matt Blunt has praised the new law as a way to build public trust in elections.
But the Democratic leaders in St. Louis and Kansas City who sued say the law violates a state constitutional provision against imposing costs on local governments without providing state funding. Their lawsuit seeks a permanent injunction blocking the law from being enforced and class-action status.
"Our overall concern is that the new law is going to leave people out who want to vote, who deserve to vote and who are qualified to vote," said Anthony Rothert, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Eastern Missouri, whose group announced the lawsuit.
The lawsuit says implementing the new law would cost the Kansas City area's Jackson County alone $470,000 to mail notices to voters and add the extra equipment and Election Day staffing and training.
Republican state Sen. Delbert Scott, who sponsored the legislation, said election officials already send out voter cards and the law provides for free photo IDs that voters can obtain before Election Day.(emphasis ours).

Desperate to remain relevant, Wilson-Plames file nuisance suit
Cheney, Rove, Libby Sued by Ex-CIA Agent Over Leak
Let's recap this Bizarro World "conspiracy":
Desk-ridden CIA operative is instrumental in getting her poncey fop husband sent to Niger to "investigate" (read: rebut) claims that Iraq sought Uranium from that country. Said hack spends his time in Niger drinking sweet tea and asking the occasional question of his hosts. Perfumed dandy pens mendacious editorial catering to "Bush lied" kooks. Administration wonders who the Hell Joe Wilson is and why he was in Niger. Administration seeks to answer poncey fop's specious claims and is accused of mounting a smear campaign when fop's desk jockey wife is "exposed" as CIA employee in a Robert Novak column. Given the agency's attempts to undermine Administration, MSM, finds new love for CIA it once despised, demands investigation. Evil Neocon Theocrat John Ashcroft recuses self, special prosecutor empowered. Member of MSM, Judith Miller, refuses to cooperate, goes to jail. Huzzah!, shout the MSM. Fop and wife bemoan loss of privacy, pose for Vanity Fair cover Wilson writes crappy book. Reviewers swoon. Bipartisan Senate intelligence committee report finds that dandy lied about pretty much everything and that fancy boy's report actually bolstered the Administration's claims. Fop is quietly dropped from advisorial post by Kerry campaign.
Special Prosecutor punts on matter of Plame's "classified" status being revealed by sinister forces, settles for charging Lewis Libby for having recollections of conversations that differ from those of reporters involved in conversations. Intelligence officials continually leak information to MSM regarding programs aimed at thwarting enemy's plans to incinerate us all. Rather than demanding that leakers be punished, MSM gleefully publishes info. NY Times quisling-in-chief cites "public interest". Novak dismisses accusations of any orchestrated "conspiracy" to punish Plame-Wilson ... or is it Wilson-Plame? Claims revelation of Plame combination of inadvertant slip by offiical who is not political gunslinger and Wilson's maturbatory entry in "Who's Who in America". Only proven liar in affair -- foppish poncey dandy Joe Wilson -- remains darling of Looney Left and MSM. Eager to remain first in the hearts of the screwball Left and ignoring the reality that the best the special prosecutor could come up with was a flimsy perjury charge, poncey fop and wife file groundless nuisance suit against virtually anyone with an "R" next to his name, clearly unaware that being questioned under oath is somewhat more perilous than a Keith Olbermann "grilling". Fact remains that Saddam sought Uranium from Niger and Joe Wilson -- not Bush, not the Brits -- lied about it. MSM and Loony Left yawn. Jihadists continue to signal their intention to immolate anyone who is not an adherent to their death cult. MSM and Loony Left yawn.
You can't make this stuff up.

Group linked to al-Qaeda is main suspect in Indian train bombings
Islam is Peace ... Bush is "ten times the terrorist that Osama ever was" ... Islam is Peace ... Bush is "ten times the terrorist that Osama ever was" ... Islam is Peace ... Bush is "ten times the terrorist that Osama ever was" ...
Our prayers are with the people of India and Mohammed's victims everywhere.
INDIAN government agents are centring their investigations into Tuesday's mass train bombings in Mumbai on two of the groups blamed for the training of the 7/7 London bombers.
The prime suspect is Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) - a group with strong links to al-Qaeda - which was set up with the assistance of the Pakistani intelligence services a decade ago as a Kashmiri separatist organisation.
It has since expanded on to the international stage and members have been arrested in the UK, the US and Australia. One of the London 7/7 bombers, Shehzad Tanweer, is believed to have stayed at a madrassa run by LeT in Mudrike, outside Lahore.
As the death toll rose above 200 yesterday, the chief of police in the state of Maharashtra, of which Mumbai - the former Bombay - is the capital, said the attack looked like the work of the LeT. Other Indian security sources also identified LeT as the prime suspect, but the group denied any role in what it called the "inhuman and barbaric acts".
About 700 people were also wounded after seven bomb blasts blew apart railway carriages and stations packed with commuters in Mumbai on Tuesday. The explosions happened just hours after a series of grenade attacks on tourists in Srinagar, capital of Indian Kashmir, in which eight people died. Another grenade explosion at a mountain resort in Kashmir yesterday wounded five tourists.

We're gonna get a lotta heat for this, but ...
... Soccer blows!
120 minutes of play ... Two goals -- which, granted, far exceeds the over/under of 0 we'd predicted -- and EIGHT shots on goal.
Sorry, Rest of the World: Most Americans like sports where stuff ACTUALLY HAPPENS. It's tough to make BASEBALL look action packed, but soccer pulls it off.
To make matters worse, the championship of the football world is settled by -- PENALTY KICKS! As unfair as this is to the players who've given their blood and guts to get to this point, we understand the rationale: They could play all night and it's unlikely anyone would score.
On the bright side, it is nice to see the Saddam coddling, violent-Muslim-youth tolerating French lose in such a bitter manner.
We fully expect to receive more grief for this than for our constant mocking of the notion that "Islam is a religion of peace".

4 July 2006 (belated!)
It's rarely noted nowadays that there was, in 1776, a sizeable domestic bloc opposed to separation from England:
2006 sees significant pockets of opposition to the War on Jihadistan, though, for the most part, their motivation is far less honorable than the dissidents of 1776: simply, they despise George W. Bush more than they fear the Jihadists.
The "loyal opposition" has metastasized into The Fifth Column.
Most recently, the Hamdan decision, the deciding vote cast and opinion written by the dullard who occupies Robert Bork's seat on the Supreme Court, dealt a blow, albeit fleeting, to the nation's ability to wage war against a savage, un-uniformed enemy who recognizes no conventions save those of Mohammed.
Fellow tautologist J.P. Stevens couldn't even wrap his over-educated noggin around the concept of "no court".
The reaction from the enemy within was swift and predictable:
"The Good Guys" won , exclaimed one promiment left wing lawyer.
"Today's Supreme Court decision reaffirms the American ideal that all [The Ponderosa: All? ALL?] are entitled to the basic guarantees of our justice system. This is a triumph for the rule of law, gushed mentally-challenged House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, in the process unwittingly (though wouldn't one first need wits?) providing the RNC with a killer ad for the Fall campaign.
Loopy Left Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold lobbed another hanging curve at RNC ad makers: "The Supreme Court's decision concerning military commissions at Guantanamo Bay is a major rebuke to an administration that has too often disregarded the rule of law."
The GOP must be thanking Allah for the jackassery of its enemies.
Meanwhile, The New York Times' ("All the Treason that Fits We Print") executive editor and Quisling-in-Chief Bill Keller has decided that it's in the public's interest to reveal the secret machinations of our intelligence agencies to our enemies.
We believe it is in the public's interest to prevent it from being blown to Kingdom Come by members of a 7th century death cult.
Apparently, to Keller, the First Amendment trumps laws against letting the enemy know what we're up to -- sort of a "Get Out of Leavenworth Free" card.
Elsewhere, useful idiots like John Murtha, Cindy Sheehan and staff at virtually every major media organ continue to be strummed like vintage Les Pauls by an enemy that learned the lesson of Vietnam: it's not necessary to defeat America militarily if you can find enough kooks amongst us to undercut the effort and deflate the national will.
Senator Jean Kerry-Heinz, unrepentant for his instrumental role in abandoning the South Vietnamese to the predations of the communist North, seems hellbent on reliving past glories by selling out 25 million Iraqis 6 months from now ... Oops, now it's 12 ... Watch this space for updates.
Miraculously, the resolve of the people of Iraq has exceeded that of our enemy within, and they continue to defy the enemies of Civilization -- risking death to go to the polls on three occasions and, after months of strained negotiations, empanelling a cabinet.
Rather than capitulating to the hellbeasts, as many here would have us do, they have spit back in their faces, even as the toll of Iraqis murdered by the terrorists far outnumbers our losses.
These enemies of freedom can no longer be properly termed "insurgents" -- "Minutemen", according to the Porcine Propagandist. Their goal is not to free their country from an invading army, but to overthrow a freely elected government and replace it with the former Baathist tyranny at best, the Sharia at worst.
It would hearten us -- and give them a smidgen of credibility -- if those who call themselves "liberals" would actually direct their anger where it belongs: at the savages who drive into crowds in bomb-laden cars and behead captives (clearly, Justice Kennedy needs to get them up to speed on the Geneva Conventions) with the goal of re-enslaving 25 million people.
Come January 20, 2009, we will have a new president. But the Jihadist threat will remain, even increase if the new president happens to be pro-surrender Democrat. Unlike the Rabid Left, the terrorists did not begin loathing America the moment Team Bush thwarted the Lunatic Al Gore's attempt to steal the 2000 election.
In the wake of all the insane rantings and screeching over common sense anti-terrorism tactics employed by the current Administration, it will be difficult politically for a Democrat Administration -- which will suddenly have the lives of 300 million Americans to worry about -- to do what is necessary to protect those millions without inflaming the kids at Daily Kos and MoveOn. The influence of these nutroots on the DNC is yet another reason the party cannot be entrusted with the security of the Republic. Providing for the Common Defence is no job for children.
We recall, in the days immediately after 9/11 when all but the most hardened domestic America haters (Chomsky/Moore/Churchill) actually behaved like Americans for a few days. Granted, it wasn't long till most of them suffered a relapse of Bush Derangement Syndrome, but, to paraphrase WJM's Murray Slaughter, when a pig flies you don't get mad at him for not staying up very long.
We're not asking you Loony Lefties to extinguish your American flags and wave them.
Just realize that, under an Islamic Republic of America the perverts, pornographers, atheists and baby eviscerators will be among the first to go.
In June 1776, just a month before the Declaration of Independence was ratified, the white men of Barnstable, Mass., voted on whether America should break its bonds with Great Britain. The tally: 30 for independence, 35 against and 65 abstentions.
...
[I]n the years leading up to the Revolutionary War, as many as a fifth of those living in America wanted to remain British subjects. Probably at least that many again were apathetic or opportunistically waiting to see which side won. The American Revolution, many historians argue, was also a civil war.
The loyalists or Tories, as the opponents of independence were known, came from all social and economic classes. An act of banishment, passed against some 300 Massachusetts loyalists in 1778, listed them by trade or profession: About a third were merchants or professional men, a third were farmers, and the rest were artisans, laborers or small shopkeepers. Many Southern slaves and American Indians also believed they would fare better under continued British rule.
Clearly, some loyalists were motivated by self-interest or greed; Britain was paying their salaries or buying their goods. Others believed only oligarchies of well-bred intellectuals were competent to govern a country. They looked down on revolutionary leaders as "men whom nobody knows." And some were convinced that Great Britain, then the world's most powerful nation, would make short work of America's shabby rebels.
Still others, lovers of order and tradition, felt emotionally attached to Britain's flag and what it stood for -- a constitutional monarchy with proven mechanisms for resolving disputes and maintaining social stability.

It's the lack of Capitalism, stupid
Recently, U2 whiner and moaner Bono asked a Yahoo audience What can we do to make poverty history? [The Ponderosa: We believe this to be the original post, but nothing is certain on the Internet.]
Well, Bono, how's this: educate backward-ass cultures on the the "Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations".
An all-volunteer team of free market scholars could travel the globe enlightening the ignorant on the benefits of economic freedom, wealth creation and liberty in general, beginning with Adam Smith's seminal work, moving on to Bastiat's The Law, Hayek's -- well, almost everything by Hayek, Friedman and Thomas Sowell.
We are happy to volunteer by enlightening the ignorant in Albany.
Because of people like you, leaders of the world’s richest countries met in July 2005 and made a number of historic promises to help end the kind of extreme poverty that is needlessly killing 9,000 people a day in Africa. Millions of lives and the future of a continent are at stake.

Tunnel plot thwarted
NEW YORK - A terrorist plot to inflict death and destruction by attacking train tunnels used by tens of thousands of commuters each day was thwarted before the men could travel to the United States, authorities said Friday.
Eight suspects — including an al-Qaida loyalist arrested in Lebanon and two others in custody elsewhere — had hoped to pull off the attack in October or November, federal officials said. But federal investigators working with their counterparts in six other countries intervened.
"It was never a concern that this would actually be executed," said Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff. "We were, as I say, all over this."
Initial reports said that the terrorists wanted to attack the Holland Tunnel, a major thoroughfare for cars entering Manhattan. But officials said the group had specifically mentioned only the PATH train tunnels that commuters travel through on their way to New York and New Jersey.
"This is a plot that involved martyrdom and explosives" and focused on the "tubes that connect Jersey and lower Manhattan," said FBI Assistant Director Mark J. Mershon.
A federal law enforcement official said the suspects hoped to inflict damage on the U.S. economy.
The men believed that by bombing the train tunnels, they could unleash a severe flood on lower Manhattan, including Wall Street, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing. The official said investigators believe that an attack on a PATH tunnel, unlike the Holland Tunnel, could have achieved that goal.
Investigators decided in recent weeks that the "plotting for this attack had matured to a point where it appeared that the individuals were about to move forward," Mershon said. "They were about to go to a phase where they would attempt to surveil targets, establish a regimen of attack and acquire the resources necessary to effectuate the attacks."

Yes, yes, this is all very interesting, but we can't help but wonder if the civil liberties of any these chaps were violated.
We're sure the ACLU is on the case.
